Montana Gov. Bullock Will Run for U.S. Senate

The New York Times is now reporting that Montana Governor Steve Bullock is preparing to run for U.S. Senate. Politico is also reporting his candidacy, which has to be filed before the end of day on Monday. The Montana Daily Gazette published an account on February 27 notifying Montana voters that Senate Minority Leader, Chuck Schumer (D-NY), flew to Montana to talk the governor into running for the office.

Governor Bullock has repeatedly claimed not to be eyeing the office, but it appears that Crying Chuck (as President Donald J. Trump refers to him) might have shed a successful tear or two in convincing the Montana governor to run.

When a reporter asked Matt McKenna, a longtime adviser to Bullock, to give comment he replied, “I don’t have anything for you,” McKenna said.

Previously, Governor Bullock’s advisers were saying absolutely not.

Montana Democrats have also been hoping that Steve Bullock would run for office, with the state senate minority leader, Jon Sesso, telling the press, “I know that he’s taken the response he’s gotten from Montanans very seriously. And I know that he knows quite vitally what’s at stake, and he’s got a decision to make.”

Knowing the race will probably see Bullock against Steve Daines, perhaps from some inside Beltway information, Trump has been lauding Daines in recent days, saying, “Whoever the [Democratic] nominee may be, please understand that I will be working hard with Steve all the way.”

Jesse Hunt of the National Republican Senatorial Committee has already issued a list of objections to Bullock’s candidacy in anticipation that he might run. These include Bullock’s dismissing of sexual harassment allegations against staff, more than 3 million dollars in hush-money paid to Montana employees since his tenue as governor, and his treatment of women, particularly his former Lt. Governor, Angela McLean.
