A 44-year-old Butte woman is dead after being tased with a stun gun by local law enforcement. According to news reports, she had brandished a knife to the police after becoming agitated in her apartment.
The woman’s identity is not being released by Butte law enforcement until her family is notified.
According to Sheriff Ed Lester in a news release late Tuesday, the woman went to the hospital after the tasing incident and died soon thereafter. An autoposy is being scheduled by the Montana State Crime Lab, the Montana Department of Criminal Investigation, and the Buttte-Silver Bow Coroner’s office.
Reportedly, the woman was at home in her apartment and was agitated. Police came to the scene, where the woman had broken out a window. After initially putting down the knife to comply with law-enforcement orders, she then picked up the knife when the officer deployed his taser.
