Video: Pastor and Legislator, Scot Kerns, Invokes the Bible During Abortion Debate in Montana House


Representative Scot Kerns (HD23) is also the pastor of St. John Lutheran Church in Fairfield and Zion Lutheran Church in Power, Montana. During discussion on a bill limiting infanticide in the Big Sky State, Rep. Kerns invoked the Holy Scriptures to argue against the elective assassination of infants while in the womb.

Kerns’ words irritated his Democratic colleagues, who prefer to use their own invocation time to sing John Lennon’s Imagine, read excerpts from Marxists and Critical Theorists, and appeal to the Great Spirit deities of Montana’s indigenous religions.

However, Kerns’ citation of the Bible is in keeping with American tradition. As U.S. President John Adams, a founding father, argued, “Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.
