On July 14th, 2021, the National Foundation for Gun Rights sent a cease and desist letter to the San Jose City Council, mayor and city attorney demanding stop stop their attempt to subject gun owners to extra fees and taxes.
On June 19th, the San Jose City Council unanimously voted to draft an ordnance to charge gun owners with a mandatory fee to cover the costs of “gun violence” along with mandating gun owners buy gun liability insurance.
The city council officials admitted in a press release that the ordinance is specifically aimed at law abiding citizens, saying: “criminals won’t obey these mandats.”
Dudley Brown, Executive Director of the National Foundation for Gun Rights, released a statement on the subject: “This a full-frontal assault on lawful gun owners by the gun control zealots running the city of San Jose. The city brazenly admits in their own press release that the burden of extra insurance and fees will ONLY be on the law-abiding.”
