Note: I originally wrote this Op-Ed on January 20th, 2021. Considering the debacle that is our inept, dishonorable, and cowardly retreat from Afghanistan, I thought it appropriate to revisit the imminently foreseeable calamity that is the Biden presidency. “When God wants to judge a nation, He gives them wicked rulers,” goes the quote often attributed to the great Reformer John Calvin. While this exact phrase cannot be directly attributed to Calvin, he wrote this in book four, chapter 20, section 25 of his famous Institutes of the Christian Religion:
But if we look to God’s Word, it will lead us farther. We are not only subject to the authority of princes who perform their office toward us uprightly and faithfully as they ought, but also to the authority of all who, by whatever means, have got control of affairs, even though they perform not a whit of the princes’ office. For despite the Lord’s testimony that the magistrate’s office is the highest gift of his beneficence to preserve the safety of men, and despite his appointment of bounds to the magistrates he still declares at the same time that whoever they may be, they have their authority solely from him. Indeed, he says that those who rule for the public benefit are true patterns and evidences of this beneficence of his; that they who rule unjustly and incompetently have been raised up by him to punish the wickedness of the people; that all equally have been endowed with that holy majesty with which he has invested lawful power. I shall proceed no farther until I have added some sure testimonies of this thing. Yet, we need not labor to prove that a wicked king is the Lord’s wrath upon the earth [Job 34:30, Vg.; Hos. 13:11; Isa. 3:4; 10:5; Deut. 28:29].
Regardless of whether Americans believe that Donald Trump or Barack Obama before him was evidence of judgment upon this country, it is clear that Joe Biden and his incoming parade of radical, God-hating Marxists perfectly fit the definition of those who rule unjustly and incompetently.
2020 began with the theater of pandemic, easily conditioning those with no fundamental morality to unquestioningly accept the supreme authority and usurpation of power over their lives by worldly authorities. They conditioned a morally weak society to convert to the cult of security and finished with the dog and pony show of a fraudulent election, installing a Manchurian candidate as the president of the United States.
The man and woman entering the White House are the exact leaders a morally bankrupt country deserves – worn out and tired, full of compromise and lies, and open to the total disillusion of the American ethic and the fundamental morality that has bound the country together for almost 250 years.
Joe Biden perfectly represents what this country has become – self-serving, morally unmoored, and weak. He consistently contradicts himself, has no foundational principles beyond his own advancement, and is easily swayed by whatever powerful influence is near him. He is the president of the social media “reality” so many Americans find themselves in – a virtual world bearing little resemblance to the real one. The “reality” of his candidacy, election, and presidency are only valid through exchanging the real world for a fake digital creation. We are in the midst of a worldwide gaslighting, where up is down and down is up simply because the institutional elites say so and a good portion of the American public is too morally feckless and bankrupt to stand against the abject lies they are fed.
Instead, Americans are loved and popular as long as their addictive social media feeds tell them they are. The coronavirus is deadly and necessitates the indefinite suspension of your freedom because so-called experts tell them it is. Elites know reality better than American citizens, who must believe them just like they must believe that Biden is the most popular presidential candidate in history. Americans’ eyes are lying to them, but the government and the media are telling the truth. Elites create truth by the power of their words, and many morally unhinged Americans are entirely unequipped and incapable of resisting.
Just like Joe Biden, America is seemingly a weak, feckless shell of its former self. Disconnected from eternal and revealed truth, prone to sway back and forth with every whim of a postmodern, post-truth, and post-God worldview, both Biden and America are primed to be destroyed by the country’s enemies – both foreign and domestic. The commonalities of American culture – primarily the principles of freedom and individual liberty based in a biblical worldview – have been shipwrecked by the iceberg of secularism and moral decay, leaving the country and its people vulnerable to destruction.
Yet hope remains. Patriotic Americans who still believe in freedom, objective truth, and the inherent nobility of our way of life and the codified principles that define it are not going gentle into that good night. We will fight for the country as founded, consistent with its biblical values of created, inalienable rights for every person – no matter their station in life. We will continue to fight tooth and nail for free expression, association, and religion. We rightly recognize that many things in life are worth more than life itself, and we will not fail to continue our pursuit of these things for us and our posterity. If our resolve fails, it will be because we have stopped breathing.
We reserve the God-given right to every word written in the preamble of the Declaration of Independence (emphasis mine):
“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.–That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed,–That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness. Prudence, indeed, will dictate that Governments long established should not be changed for light and transient causes; and accordingly all experience hath shewn, that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable, than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed. But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security.”
Patriotic Americans responsibly reserve these rights. Pray it will not come to this.
