In an interview with Newsmax’s Greg Kelly, Texas Republican congressman Troy Nehls described the January 6th shooting of unarmed Trump supporter Ashli Babbitt as murder.

Babbitt, a US military veteran, was unarmed when she was shot and killed by Capitol police officer Mike Byrd during the January 6th protests. Nehls, who is a 30-year law enforcement veteran and a 21-year veteran of the US Army Reserve, said that the shooting was clearly murder and should have prompted the paneling of a grand jury to determine the validity of the charge.

Instead, the Biden Department of Justice refused to investigate Babbitt’s death, and officer Byrd was given an exclusive with NBC News to deny he did anything wrong. Byrd claimed that Babbitt was “posing a threat to the House of Representatives.”

Nehls said, “It was murder… I’ve been a lawman for 30 years… The point is I know a little bit about use of force. I understand a little bit about grand juries. This shooting should have at least gone to a grand jury. But the Department of Justice has no intent of doing a thorough investigation… The video was quite clear. It was murder.”
