Montana Weather: Much Colder than your Freezer-

The bitter freezing Artic chilly cold has come a bit early to Montana; usually we don’t see severe below zero weather temperatures until the middle of February.

Extreme cold temperatures and wind chill factors can be brutal and affect even the hardiest of Montanans in negative ways.

It affects the economy as ski hills see fewer locals and tourists coming out to ski. It disturbs local outdoor groups such as athletes who practice or play outdoor hockey/skating rinks because they cancel their activities.

There are perhaps two great things about sub-zero temperatures in Montana, and one is folks have an extra freezer meaning their garage to place food in. The other is ice fishing. There’s no chance of falling through the ice when it’s frozen solid, plus ice fishers are diehards. They set up those little tents so they can escape the wind. So at least they are happy about the extreme cold temperatures.

Be sure while traveling and especially distances that you take extra precautions when bringing flares, jumper cables, extra blankets, and those hot pockets for warming hands and plenty of extra water and hot coffee!

Stay safe Montana!
