David August of Kalispell Montana is running for House District 9, so we wanted to introduce you to Dave and share why he’s an outstanding candidate to fill the seat. He gave some great answers. So in a question and answer format, we interviewed Dave; we think you will be pleased with his responses.
MDG: “Dave, what are the five main reasons that caused you to want to run for the legislature?”
Dave: “I want to keep Montana (and Montanans) safe for the sake of future generations. I want a Montana for my son, daughters, and grandson. I feel it’s essential to fight for our Montana State and United States Constitution and to continue to defend our 2nd Amendment rights! It’s super important to serve my community which I try to do continually. I will do everything in my power to help end “Covid Mandates” as I believe that to be extremely important.”
MDG: “Great, Dave! That’s a super impressive list! So let me ask you, what do you consider to be your greatest strengths?”
Dave: “You know, I’m a people person. I love people. I love helping and serving folks. I’m a talker, and I’m a good listener. I enjoy engaging in meaningful conversations, and I believe I make people feel comfortable. By nature, I’m a fighter, and I stand up for my rights and the rights of others. I’m most definitely a leader, and I have a big heart for kids and teens.”
MDG: “What do you think are some of the most pressing issues our state is facing?”
Dave: “Well, like I said, definitely Covid related issues and most certainly our 2nd Amendment rights and freedoms. Election integrity is a big issue and must be dealt with appropriately. Montana is working diligently on that issue, and it’s a focus of mine. Housing issues are essential to tackle in our state, and I’m planning on addressing that.
MDG: “What area are you serving? Where do you live?”
Dave: “House District 9 encompasses Evergreen and Northeast Kalispell. I live in South Kalispell.”
MDG:” How many years have you been doing this, or is this your first year?”
Dave: “I have been involved in politics for 36 years. This is my first run for House District 9.”
MDG: “What was the deciding factor that made you want to run?”
Dave: “Running for office is something I’ve wanted to do for quite some time, and in 2017 I decided I was going to run in 2020 or 2022. After watching the 2020 races and what took place, I was mad and knew I had to run. Election integrity is a big one more me.
MDG: “What is your ‘everyday’ position in life?
Dave: “I hold an Associates Degree in Criminal Justice and was a Correctional Officer. I currently work in Security.”
MDG: “Dave, that’s great, meaning you’re a community protector, and we need that type of experience and skill set in Helena. Can you give us a little information about yourself, including your hobbies etc.?”
Dave: “We are a sports family and mostly enjoy football and wrestling, but I’ve also coached my girls in soccer and softball. I have been officiating football for ten years and wrestling for 20 plus years. I have two daughters I was granted custody of, and both are married now. I have a 3.5-year-old grandson as well. My wife and I married in 2008, and I adopted her four-year-old daughter. In 2010, we had a son together, which completed our family. I also enjoy riding my motorcycles and shooting guns when I can. I am also involved with the Republican Party and enjoy helping with various campaigns.”
MDG: “How long have you lived in Montana, and where were you born?”
Dave: “I was born in Great Falls at Malstrom Airforce Base. When I was 4.5 years old, we moved to Delaware, then eventually to Pittsburg, Pennsylvania. In 2011 I moved with my wife and children to Montana. So I’ve lived in Montana for about 15 years. I consider Montana home, and I enjoy the wide-open space, the scenery, and the people. Montana is absolutely the “Last Best Place!”
MDG: Dave, this has been an incredible interview! Thanks for sharing your time with us and allowing us to get to know you better. You seem very qualified as a candidate running for House District 6, and you certainly seem competent, and capable! We wish you the very best!
