Defiant Rosendale Explains his Shocking 426-3 ‘No’ Vote on Ukraine Resolution

Yesterday we told you about how Montana Congressman Matt Rosendale was one of only three U.S. House of Representative Members to vote against a non-binding, bipartisan, blow-out congressional resolution, being outgunned 3 to 426 on a statement expressing support for the Ukrainian people and against the predations of Russia.

Naturally, this had him excoriated a lot by the left and a little by the right, who would not comprehend why he would do this, particularly in the face of such unified opposition. At the time we suggested that it wasn’t because he didn’t care about the violence and death in that country, as Putin leaves bombed buildings and blood trails from the Kremlin to Kyiv in a bid to oust President Zelensky and put up his own puppet leader, but rather because his conscience and convictions constrained him from committing resources to secure that border while our own is in such disarray. He told KJVO’s Peter Christian:

there were a lot more people who wanted to vote against that resolution but were just too intimidated not to. It’s tragic to see the loss of innocent life and suffering in Eastern Europe. If the White House would have acted stronger toward our foreign adversaries over the last 14 months, today’s events could have been avoided.

I cannot support the resolution to send unlimited military, monetary and humanitarian aid to Ukraine, when the United States is failing to deal with the crises impacting the safety and well-being of the American people. The invasion of illegal aliens flooding our southern border must be stopped. The opioid crisis must be dealt with. Energy dominance must be restored, and the rise in crime and inflation must be resolved.”

When asked by the host whether or not he was concerned about the inordinate amount of criticism he was getting from the mainstream media, and whether it may affect his chance at re-election, Rosendale was immovable, believing that his position is aligned with the people of Montana:

Here’s how I look at my votes Peter; I do what I think that the people from Montana expect me to do without intimidation and bias at all, and then I can come back out and explain it. And when you look at this resolution, it literally was giving the President a blank check and a green light to have unlimited spending on military and monetary investments in Ukraine at the exact same time that we have a southern border that is being controlled by the Mexican cartels.”

  1. The USA has forced its nose into too many areas while expending the blood and treasure of the people. I’m not jumping in the silly notion that we must stop Putin. Zelenski is a tool, Ukraine is corrupt and the old style of thinking is nonsense. The biggest terrorist in the world bar none is the CIA. When people wake up and realize America is run by the corporate party and D vs R is just a smoke screen, we can effect real change. Our battle is not against flesh and blood.

    • Amen Alan. I sent Rep. Rosendale a thank you for demonstrating he has a moral compass. How would Americans feel if missiles, nukes were aimed at us via the US Canadian, US Mexico borders? How about the dozen, maybe more US bioweapon labs in the Ukraine.

Unfortunately too many are deceived by the two party duopoly. The US is a global hegemonic bully.

  3. …”While Soros talks of openness and “liberal democracy,” in fact, the Ukraine he helped create was designated as “the most corrupt nation in Europe” by The Guardian in 2015, and not much changed in the ensuing years (recall, Joe Biden’s son, Hunter Biden, and his corrupt dealings in Ukraine).

Soros is not a builder of democracies; he is a destroyer of them, as evidenced by Ukraine. When his time passes on earth, that will be a good day for liberty…”

    • You are right that Ukraine is not a free democratic society and the H. Res. 956 statement that “Ukraine, a democratic country, is the frontline of democracy and freedom versus authoritarianism represented by Putin’s Russia” is a politically-correct lie. However, Ukraine is an independent country. Putin’s Russia is no less corrupt nation than Ukraine, but thanks to Biden and EU ‘Green policies’, the USA and Europe depend on Russian oil and gas. Allowing Putin’s imperial ambitions to use this dependency to invade Ukraine opens the door to future invasion of Baltic countries and Finland.
Yet, Matt Rosendale was right to oppose the resolution, and GOP members who supported it were wrong.
